Overview

The ORA Peppermint Shrimp is shipped with care and high-grade packaging from ORA, a member of the Mr. Chili Sustainability Alliance. This certification ensures sustainable breeding and exceptional husbandry practices, with 2% of net proceeds contributing to Ocean Conservation.

Originating from various Lysmata species along the Eastern Seaboard, Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean, these shrimp feature red stripes on a transparent to cream-colored body and can grow up to 2 inches. They are well-known for consuming Aiptasia anemones, promoting a healthier aquarium environment without harming corals. Peppermint Shrimp tend to hide during the day and forage at night, exhibiting non-aggressive behavior toward fish and other invertebrates. They may also spawn in groups, providing food for corals and small fish.

Water Parameters

  • Temperature: 75-78°F
  • pH Level: 7.7 – 8.5
  • Salinity: 1.023-1.026 (27-35ppt)
  • Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate: Ammonia and nitrite should be undetectable; nitrate levels under 20 ppm are ideal.

Diet

Peppermint Shrimp are carnivorous scavengers that help control Aiptasia and consume leftover food in the tank. They do not require additional feeding in well-established tanks but can be offered small portions of meaty foods a couple of times a week if necessary.

Compatibility

These shrimp can be kept with any peaceful fish and are reef-safe. Avoid larger wrasse species or aggressive fish. Be cautious during coral feeding, as they may steal food from corals.

Common Tank Mates

  • Fish: Clownfish, Cardinalfish, small Wrasse, Firefish, Tangs, Dwarf Angelfish, and other peaceful fish.
  • Invertebrates: Other Peppermint Shrimp and various invertebrates.
  • Coral: Safe with Soft, LPS, or SPS coral.
